Late one evening, my friend and I saw a weary mama dog running down the highway. We watched her cross the busy road and followed her to several dumpsters where she was scrounging for food. It broke my heart. We knew she was nursing and there had be puppies somewhere. We tried to follow her, but lost her. Several more days we saw her, but could never track her back to her babies. Late one evening we got lucky and saw her go into a fenced in wrecker yard. I called the owner of the lot and got permission to squeeze through the gates. I saw her at the back of the property and when I started walking towards her she started barking at me like any mama dog would do if they were protecting their pups. I knew I was getting warm! Sure enough, as I approached I could see little roly poly puppies everywhere! They had been born under a wrecked tractor trailer!  We were able to get the Mama, now named Birdie, and her TEN precious pups! The only thing greater than rescuing a dog, IS RESCUING ELEVEN!
