So the lab beagle was a bust but we heard about George from another source and I drove down to see him today.
He is calm and friendly but a real escape artist just 18 months old.
Sadly the house he lived in has to make way for developers and his owners found themselves in a position where they have to go live in a flat but George wasnt able to go with them. Its no life for a dog whos been used to lots of outdoors time and fresh air anyway, so he came home with us this afternoon and he and Murphy really hit it off and have been racing about playing tag for hours.
Thank you so much for sharing pictures and your story about George. I'd been wondering about you and the potential adoption. He's adorable! So good for them to be good pals and wear each other out! Yay - so happy for you guys!!
So happy for all involved! Can't wait to see more pics!
i haven't logged in in a while - work's been too busy for goof off - but i was thinking of you today @mad-murphy and had to come see if the adoption went through.... Glad i got to see good news!! (even if it wasn't the news i'd anticipated..still great news!)
Congrats on your new fur baby!! 🍻
Thanks everyone, of course its early days and we are being very careful to make sure they dont get over excited or over stimulated which could get out of hand there have been a couple ofmoments ( just like kids) when they decided they both wanted the same toy of to sit on the same chair but a bark or stare is as far as anything as either has pushed.
We are making sure that they respect each other at meal times (george is a quick eater) and each has enough space and time to eat dinner without threat of it being stolen.
All in all this is going really well.. I know things can always go wrong so we are being careful and watchful but Im happy so far.
Did I speak too soon?
It turns out George is a chewer, and OH glasses fell victim to his attentions. OH fell asleep and his glasses must have fallen from his lap. He woke up to hear George crunching !!!!
George is fine he suffered no injury the glasses have plastic lenses and he spat out all the bits (that was a jigsaw with a difference!)
Apart from that and the fact that he will run away if he gets the chance things are going really well. My grandchildren have been over this past week and George loved both of them and he became my granddaughters new BFF within minutes.
Oh George! I'm glad he was OK but I'm sorry about the glasses.
Pompey tends to pounce on anything he thinks he shouldn't have, so he'd probably have grabbed the glasses as well. 😉
Its been two weeks now and the fun and games continue... Gorgeous George aka Curious George or naughty George is setteling in. He and Murphy still play every day, its a game of pin your opponent down and grab his collar.. Then you get a point and start over again, they roll around the floor like two mad wrestlers. If at any time the game gets rough and one yelps they break, catch a breath and then start again, there is absolutly no nastiness involved. Im so happy with them.
Only when it comes to toys is Murphy a bit naughty and jealous. So weve taken toys out of the living room and they only get a ball or rope when out then its no ones territory.
Walks are 'fun' George has very little road walking manners so he pulls a bit but we are working on that and his recall is zero (like most hounds ) so we have a very long long line that gives him the idea of freedom and the space to run a bit without the chance of vanishing over the horizon..
Feeding times are hectic George inhales food,so his bowl is empty in 15 seconds and Murphy is still busy , OH made a small sliding door to the kitchen and problem solved. He has also adjusted well to the diet, Murphy gets raw and KVV
( Barf? complete raw) no problems with that change George loves it.
George will chew, hes had OH's reading glasses and the corner of my bird spotting book but now we know we can keep an eye on things.
Murphy is barking less , reacting less , is less jumpy and is very very happy.
This was them at the beach
Well we are now a month along the line and George is one of the family. He likes to sleep on our bed with us ,he would have his head on the pillow if we let him. He sits with me while I type and we have setteled into a good routine. Most mornings he is on the long line while Murphy plays ball so he can either join in or do his own thing with some freedom. In the afternoons we walk to a nearby enclosed area and he is allowed off the lead ..Luckily its not in a built up area because George chases Murphy and barks like only a hound in hot pursuit can... WHOO HOOO HOOOO its ear spiltting.
Hes getting used to not eating sticks, not stealing food and not trying to get the doors open. We are getting used to putting things away and not leaving anything edible unattended,, for a second..
George and Murphy play and play and play then they sleep..
Murphy is calmer hes less nervous around people ,, he even let the neighbours grown up kids say hello and sniffed their hands without trying to eat them or doing the crazy dog dance at the end of the lead!!!
How wonderful! I love that photo of them running together.

if you have FB you can hear George at full volume.... This is a safe enclosed area near our house where we are able to let him off the lead each day
